TOLO DANCE MONSTER MASH
EVENT TIME! |
Every September, Valoran Institute hosts an annual Tolo dance. Encompassing all three schools, it is a time for students of all ages to come together and dance and have fun. Rumors have been circulating for a few weeks that Pentakill would be coming to perform, so attendance is at an all-time high. Unfortunately, it would seem that the heavy rock band either lost its invitation in the mail, or that the rumors were, in fact false. There is still fun to be had, with a photo booth and lots of interesting props (including these weird things and some things no one's ever seen before). And there's music and dancing! That's what you came here for, right?
Unfortunately (or fortunately, if dances aren't really your thing), something else has been attracted by the sick beats of this obviously super awesome dance. Who invited all these guys?! About halfway through the dance, the party will be crashed by a bunch of, thankfully color-coordinated, monsters! Maybe they just want to get their groove on? Probably not...
[[OOC: This is an open log event! Players can do whatever they want, and assume that whatever scenario related to the above prompt is possible. Dance! Be a bored chaperone! Punch some void thing in the face! All this and more are possible!]]

...Was he sizing her up? She rolled her shoulders a bit awkwardly at the comment ("What do you know?! I'm still new at this!"), reading a rebuttal. She stopped herself when she saw him start to deconstruct her light binding. Okay, this might be bad. She couldn't directly attack him here, there were too many innocents. Searching around the auditorium, she spotted the exit.
He seemed pretty keen on attacking her now, so if she could provoke the monster more... ]
You think you can destroy me when it takes you that long to get out of there? How do you expect to even keep up with me, Ugly?
[ She would have to run past him to get outside, but she could easily give herself enough berth to avoid his tentacles's reach. Thankfully the courtyard outside was fairly open. There were a few statues around, and she would do her very best to avoid hitting any of them, but in the grand scheme of things, a few crumbled carvings versus injured students was a good trade. ]

[The binding disassembled, Vel'Koz jetted after Lux, its movements reminiscent of an octopus moving through the sea. It had taken a bit too long to get free, giving Lux a chance to prepare for its approach, but on the trade off it now had a deeper understanding of Lux's power. It was confident it could escape similar bindings much faster now.]

Still, he was a lot faster than she thought he would be but, managing to get to the courtyard with little to no difficulty, she looked at her surroundings. Somehow she remembered there being a lot more that she could use for cover. There was the Flying Poro statue, a fountain, and a few larger shrubs. It wasn't great, but it would do. If she could blind him, then she might be able to get an immediate advantage. ]
Lucent Singularity!
[ Throwing a bright yellow star out, well enough away from the doorway to keep damage to a min, she waited for the tentacled beast to catch up. Once he was in range, she would detonate it. ]

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...
[It did not come out through the door way. Instead, a brilliant, purple fireball shot out through a window. Just as it looked like it might streak past Lux entirely, it turned a right angle and shot straight at her!]

There!
[ Seeing the fireball fly, she jumped out of the way, her back turned toward the attack. She prepared a counter strike, but was thrown off balance when the bolt hit her square in the back. Wait, but she just saw it miss! ]

I wonder, is it unable to adapt, or just unwilling?
[It blinked, once, before the central eye shot out a pulse of light into the ground under Lux's feet. Immediately she could feel the rumbling beneath her, as some kind of eruption built up.]

Lucent Singularity detonating without any real target, Lux paid little attention to it. She would be able to cast it again relatively soon, but would it be soon enough?
Tossing her staff outward, a bright pink shield surrounded her, covering her with light. It wasn't much, but she could hopefully use that to dampen the next attack--if she wasn't able to dodge, that is. If she could just get his pattern down... ]

[The central eye dilated fully until it was pure black. From the depths of the darkness came a light the grew into an eye searing brilliance before arcing out in a coherent beam of energy that disintegrated everything it touched. The beam slammed into Lux's fragile shield. She had a second...maybe two before it broke through and tore her body to subatomic particles.]
Perhaps your corpse will offer me more information than your life did.

Academic pursuit is for the good of all humanity. It should never be used to cause pain and suffering!
[Standing before them is a young blond man in a white suit. A half-cape trails behind it and he is wearing a white mask. He gently sets Lux on her feet again before speaking in an unusually deep voice]
Star Guardian, are you all right?

The dawning realization was apparent on her face: She wouldn't be able to dodge the beam. Bracing herself for impact, she closed her eyes tightly, bracing her staff in front of her.
All she wanted was a fun evening. She wanted to dance with a nice guy. Maybe an upperclassman. Someone dashing, smart, funny and impossibly charming. He'd hold her close, and then... ]
!!
[ She was moving. Someone was carrying her. Her eyes snapped open, and she looked up at the masked stranger. Her eyes wide in surprise, it took her a moment to snap back to reality, even after he set her back down. She nodded a bit. ]
Y-yeah.
[ But she didn't have time to be stunned like this! Turning her attention back to Vel'Koz, she quickly threw a Lucent Singularity its way, detonating it just before it landed. ]

More meddlers? How aggravating.

[The masked man starts firing bolts of energy at Vel'Koz, dashing to the right to strafe around him]
no subject
S...so cool.Noticing the change in the creature's movements, she knew she had to do something a bit more drastic, before it recovered. Her snares seemed to no longer have any effect on him, so there was no point trying another Light Binding.
The masked stranger was thankfully far enough that she was not worried about hitting him with her next attack. The ends of her star staff sparkling brightly, her feet began to lift off the ground. Her body glowed, as power gathered around her staff. ]
Hey you! Ugly! Analyze this!
[ A thin pink bead centered on the void monster before exploding in a beam of bright stars. You want death beams? She's got one too! ]

It started to dart to the side, but was not fast enough and got hit full on by the beam. When the light cleared, a blackened body floated through the air, dissolving into glowing particles of light. From the center of the husk emerged the creatures main eye, orbited by the three secondary eyes.]
Hrrgh. Defeated by such a ridiculous display. There may be more to this species than initial investigation suggested.
I will withdraw for now, humans. This victory is a gift to you. The last you shall receive.
[With that, the cluster of naked eyes moved in a direction that the human eye could not track due to only being able to see in three dimensions, and quietly vanished from sight.]
no subject
What a brilliant display, Star Guardian! We shall meet again! Farewell!
[And with a swish of his cape, he's gone]

[ Oh, her heart was beating so fast. One, because she was afraid that she was going to die. Two, because a very dashing, mysterious young man just saved her life. And three, because she had never really been that close to someone, let alone...
She was more than a bit flustered. Her little dork heart was doing somersaults. ]
